SJM Concerts present Betty

Please note this is an 18+ Event

Betty is a 24-year-old indie artist from London, born in the east and raised in the west. Her childhood was often chaotic but soaked in musical influence and escapism, from The Cure to Kanye, later finding her own eclectic taste from Sampha to Sexyy Red. She dropped out of school early and ventured into modelling and DJing, but it was music that truly grounded her and let her express herself (“When you’re DJing you’re really hiding”). She first experimented with guitar loops during the early days of lockdown and quickly grew a community of musicians to develop alongside.

Her debut EP Mind Over Matter, which was released this year, is a deeply personal collection of songs, written like letters to her younger self. It explores themes of mental health, anxiety, self-doubt, dyslexia, and ADHD, documenting her journey of overcoming the obstacles her mind throws up. Blending indie, alternative pop and singer-songwriter sounds, Betty creates music that is at once raw, punchy, humourous and reflective.

Before fully stepping into the world of music, Betty made her mark as a DJ across the capital, performing at sought-after gigs for the likes of Miu Miu and gaining a reputation for her multi-genre sets – with more emphasis on selection than blends (“Honestly it was just for fun and free drinks”). Now focusing on her own artistry, she is working on new material with collaborators who understand the eclectic mix of styles that define her sound – the likes of Jakwob, Eddie Allen, Oscar Scheller, Dom Valentino and more.

In Summer 2024, Betty supported Ari Abdul on her UK tour, and is continuing to perform more intimate gigs across London, leading up to her first headline tour across the UK in late November. She’ll be playing grassroots venues with her band, made up of talented musicians including Tomasso, Jorge Gill, Layla Jennifer, and Ankit Suri.

Betty’s music is about growing up, finding strength through vulnerability, and learning to navigate the world on her own terms. “I want it to feel as personal as possible,” Betty says.
