Tango Of Perversion
Greece 1974
Director: Kostas Karagiannis
Cast: Lakis Komninos, Erika Raffael, Dorothy Moore, Vagelis Voulgaridis
The Tango Club is the favourite hangout for Greek swingers of all sexual persuasions. They live for pleasure, be that psychedelic music, wild clothes, fast cars, voyeurism, booze, dope, and sex. When local playboy Stathis finds his girlfriend in a lesbian embrace, his brutal revenge results in death. He thinks his secret is secure, but Joachim, a rich but impotent voyeur, has been filming the action from behind the mirror. Joachim uses this opportunity to engage in the ultimate taboo as his depraved fantasies become reality, and the two men’s lives become entwined in a cat-and-mouse race for satisfaction and survival.
Filmed in lurid primary colours, with a fantastic eclectic soundtrack and some outrageously funny scenes (unintentionally funny we need to add), it’s a thrilling ride.
Director Karagiannis pumped out quality exploitation at a furious pace, with 178 director credits, including the better known (but less satisfying) Dangerous Cargo (1977) and the satanic Donald Pleasance/Peter Cushing outing The Devil’s Men (1976). Here he pulls out all the stops to create a sleazy classic with more twists than a tango.
The feature will be supported by a programme of crazy trailers.
