Junior Bill began as the solo project of songwriter, Rob Nichols. In 2013 he gathered his mates in Cathays Community Centre, Cardiff to form the band which would act as the vehicle for his catchy, astute songs. The tight dub grooves of bassist Rory Saunders and drummer Jim Strickland underpin Rob’s distinctive voice and prescient commentary whilst Luke Owen and Joel Beswick bring the songs to life with a collage of dubby synth sounds and samples.

Their name is a tribute to a forgotten hero of reggae, Junior Byles, as well as Skiffle band Railroad Bill, in which Rob’s father has sung and played the washboard for 32 years. This sense of heritage is manifest in Junior Bill’s sound which bears traces of the roots of British rock n roll, refracted through Two-tone and Stiff Records via the dub of Lee Scratch Perry and global sensibilities of Manu Chao.
