It’s been two years since singer- songwriter Will Robert walked away from a promising career as a sound engineer to embark on his musical journey.
Leaving his Cambridge bedroom where he had spent hours refining his unique style of percussive guitar playing, Will began a 300-date tour busking in city centres all over Europe with nothing but his guitar and his charismatic collection of songs for company.
A travelling troubadour, he hit the streets of Hamburg, Berlin, Amsterdam and London, playing to anyone who would listen, making enough cash to move from city to city, and garnering a loyal group of fans along the way.
It was in January 2015 that his months of “couch surfing” paid off. His local BBC Introducing station in Cambridge picked up the track “City Lights”, taken from his debut EP “Transitions” and quickly passed it onto Fearne Cotton. A week of playlisting on Radio 1 followed with support from Huw Stephens, along with comparisons to acclaimed artists like Ben Howard and Bon Iver.
Fast forward to this summer and Will set himself the challenge of performing 100 shows in 100 days. This challenge took him to streets, stages and venues across the UK and Europe and coincided with gigs in a packed tent at Radio 1’s Big Weekend and sets at Secret Garden Party and Boardmasters Festival in Cornwall. This summer also saw the release of Will’s second single, the uplifting and catchy Best Laid Plans which once again gained support from Huw Stephens getting plays on Radio 1.
Not content with his achievements this summer, Will is now setting his sights on rooftop gigs and he’ll be starting his very own 20 date headline tour in January next year to coincide with the release of his brand new EP through Virgin EMI in February.
